“This life is what you make it. No matter what, you are going to mess it up sometimes, it’s a universal truth. But the good part is you get to decide how you’re going to mess it up… So keep your head high, keep your chin up, and most importantly, keep smiling, because life’s a beautiful thing and there’s so much to smile about.” – Marilyn Monroe

Christian Siriano FW 2012

The Christian Siriano show was a cab ride away from Lincoln Center and the line to get into the building was way down the block, but I was so happy I was able to make it (especially since I missed him in DC)! Just last week, the New York Times wrote an article about how Siriano (who’s from Annapolis!) is trying to move past “fierce” and be taken more seriously by the fashion community (though we’ve all loved him since Project Runway). To help, he hired stylist Danielle Nachmani who has helped to streamline his runway looks since the FW 2011 season. I loved the simple yet glamorous looks from the spring collection and was looking forward to seeing what he had in store for fall.

Some of his fans might not love the darker, subdued looks for fall, but I was definitely a fan of this edgier glam side of Siriano. Inspired by the 1933 film The Vampire Bat, there was lots of sheer, grey, black, leather, and burgundy – even the dark lips were made to look bat-like! My favorite look was a moto jacket with a pin tucked maxi skirt, but the sheath dresses and a-line skirts were perfectly sexy and sophisticated. And it was so fun to see Brad Goreski, Nina Dobrev, and Mena Suvari there to support him!

Also fun was learning that the shoe designs on the runway will inspire the Fall 2012 Christian Siriano for Payless Gold collection, due in Payless stores and Payless.com in Septemper 2012! See more on the shoes here.
