“This life is what you make it. No matter what, you are going to mess it up sometimes, it’s a universal truth. But the good part is you get to decide how you’re going to mess it up… So keep your head high, keep your chin up, and most importantly, keep smiling, because life’s a beautiful thing and there’s so much to smile about.” – Marilyn Monroe

Outfit + Occasion: Horse Races

It’s horse race season – and whether you’re hosting a derby themed party or headed to the Kentucky Derby or the Virginia Gold Cup Races (like me!) you’ll need the perfect outfit! I mean, what other occasion do you have to get dressed up and wear a big hat? My favorite look is usually a feminine yet comfortable dress (light colors or prints, sleeveless with a fuller skirt) with flats or wedges (no stilettos in the grass, ladies) – and a fantastic hat (or fascinator), of course. This year, I’m honored to be a judge for Gold Cup’s official hat contest! So if you’ll be there, be sure to say hi and wear your best hat! Plus, check out this piece I put together for the Washingtonian with some hat recommendations!

1. Nordstrom Collection hat / 2. Brooks Brothers hat / 3. Jessica Simpson hat
4. Rachel Zoe dress / 5. Lilly Pulitzer dress / 6. Topshop dress
7. Shoshanna dress / 8. Jack Rogers sandals / 9. Madewell dress
10. Nine West wedges / 11. Ralph Lauren wedge / image

Don’t forget a wrap if it’s chilly, rain gear if it may rain, sunscreen and sunglasses! And mimosas and mint juleps are a must! Check out this post on Glamazon Diaries for more ideas!
