Voyage to Utopia
Fashion shows may be wrapping up in New York this week, but there’s another fashion show happening this weekend I wanted to share. Voyage to Utopia, a student-produced cultural fashion show at Marymount University, is hosted by the African-Caribbean Student Association (ACSA) and various supporting cultural clubs.
Taking place on February 18th, 2012 on the main campus of Marymount University, the show is not for profit and picks charities each year to donate a large percentage of the proceeds to. This year the Voyage to Utopia committee is looking raise over $2,000.00 dollars that they will be split between two great causes that they feel strongly about. One cause is to provide an education for an underprivileged girl of Maasai at the Kakenya Center of Excellence by donating to The KaKenya’s Dream Foundation. The second cause is to provide a book and education scholarship to a well deserving incoming freshman for the upcoming fall 2012 semester.
Voyage to Utopia will showcase the fashion trends for the upcoming seasons, and fashions inspired by the African, Caribbean, or Latino culture. The show highlights concepts derived from the roots of the African and Caribbean countries along with the styles that have regenerated through generations adding their own interpretation, such as playing with abstract shapes and mixing patterns. This professional event has gained a reputation in the DC community and is attended by fashionable youth, community supporters, fashion bloggers, local socialites, and enthusiastic students from all over the city.
Tickets are $12 for general admission, $25 for VIP seating and can be purchased here: whatisyourvoyage.eventbrite.
