Get Fit Tips And Updates

One of my major goals for spring is to get back into a workout routine and take better care of myself (eat better, drink water, sleep more, etc.). While I know I don’t normally discuss fitness and healthy living here, I’ve been saving up all my favorite fitness related news and products to share in one big post. Plus, I got some expert tips straight from the owner/instructor of one of my favorite pilates studios, Potomac Pilates. You don’t want to miss it! Happy Friday!

fitness / so much to smile about

1. Apifeni Tank: Apifeni is an amazing activewear line I’ve actually talked about before. Danielle, the attorney-turned entrepreneur and founder, started the line to create clothing that you can work out in and still feel both comfortable and chic. I wear the Diana pant and sporty tank all the time!

2. Frends Headphones: I can’t get these gold lux headphones from Frends out of my head! The line of headphones are made specifically for women and the Ella b earbud above if a fitness version created to resemble an earring that plays music with secure, ambient tips that stay in during your workout and allow you to hear surrounding environment noise. For non-workout headphones, these are to-die-for.

3. SELF Magazine’s Workout in the Park: Universities nationwide competed for the opportunity to host an outdoor fitness festival on campus, and the first ever Workout on the Quad event is coming to DC on Saturday, April 27th at American University’s Eric Friedheim Quadrangle! For more information and to purchase tickets to SELF Magazine’s Workout in the Park, visit www.SELFWorkoutinthePark.com or tweet #WorkoutInThePark and #WorkoutOnTheQuad.

4. Equinox Gyms: Ever since I toured the Bethesda Equinox gym, I’ve been wishing I lived closer to the red line! This gym is absolutely incredible, with tons of really amazing classes.

5. Sculpt DC: I took a class at Sculpt a few weeks ago and was really blown away. The gorgeous space includes two studios, a patron’s lounge, men’s and women’s locker facilities and a lifestyle retail boutique in over 5,000 square feet of space. The cycling studio is equipped with the latest bikes that display and monitor each rider’s performance as well as a customized audio-visual system to complement your riding experience — and my instructor was really, really great. They also have a yoga studio, which was designed “with careful consideration of your practice in mind,” and lots of great class options. I highly recommend checking out this Metro Center located space!

6. SPANX Active Wear: Did you know that Spanx made active wear? These full length pants include a “Slim-X® Belly Buster” and curved seams to keep you looking tight, plus they wick away moisture so you stay comfortable! I would wear these for yoga or runs outside for sure.

7. Potomac Pilates: When I took my first class at Potomac Pilates, I thought as a long-time yoga practitioner, it would be easy. It was not! But it was also the most amazing workout I think I’ve ever had. There were muscles that were sore I didn’t even know existed, and honestly, it felt great. I just know my body would change if I were able to make these classes several times a week. If you can, I seriously recommend trying them out for yourself!

8. Honest Tea: Honest Tea just launched Honest Zero in glass bottles, a zero-calorie, stevia-sweetened line of beverages, with the introduction of Naturally Flavored Zero Calorie Passion Fruit Green Tea — and the new flavor tastes amazing (plus zero calorie? amazing)! I was recently introduced to the drinks, and since then, have been making my way through all the flavors. I also love the Just Green Tea, and also their Honest Ade fruit punch drinks. I’m really hoping to get this to replace my daily Diet Cokes!

9. Standard Moves: This Spring, Standard Moves is collaborating with sport lifestyle brand PUMA®  to launch a new set of interactive .gifs, highlighting body conditioning & yoga poses adapted from the wellness programming offered at The Standard properties. It’s such a fun tumblr to follow for yoga/workout poses and tips!

Finally, here are some exclusive, expert tips from Reina Offutt Pratt to help you get in shape! Read more about her and the other staff at Potomac Pilates here!
