Pretty In Pleats

Having just recently declared my love for pleated pants, I found the feature on “Soft Pleats” in the April 2011 issue of Marie Claire to be particularily well-timed. But rather than focus on pants, Marie Claire looked to pleated skirts, saying the “delicate fanlike folds graduate from schoolgirl skirts to clever grown-up lengths.” It appears the ladylike “trend,” along with these ultra-femme skirts, isn’t going away anytime soon (then again, isn’t dressing like a lady always in style?). According to the New York Times, “so much modesty has never gone so far.”

Refinery 29 would have you believe that ladylike looks are the “trend du jour,” and while Mad Men, Gossip Girl and the runways are certainly contributing to the increase in popularity of this chic and sophisticated style, I would argue that dressing “ladylike” is always in style.
