October Essentials

Sooo… I love October! The air is crisp and chilly, there are pumpkins and orange leaves, Halloween and my BIRTHDAY (on the 29th, in case you’re curious – eeeee). It’s a great month. And there are some seriously great things to shop right now too, like contrast sleeve jackets, stripes and faux fur, and lots of skulls and bats that are perfect for the season! Oh, October… you’re the best.

Oops, it’s another fall post! But seriously people, there are so many amazing shoes out there right now. I absolutely can’t get enough of those Gap loafers (for more on loafers, see this old post), and polka dotted heels? Perfect. Plus, flat ankle (“beatle”) booties, and amazing high heels. Love.

A new job is the perfect occasion to go through your work wardrobe and step it up a bit, don’t you think? I know after three years at the same job, I’ve gotten pretty comfortable with my attire and it may be time to reevaluate! First place to start, tear apart my closet. Second? It’s horse race season – and whether you’re hosting a derby themed party or headed to the Kentucky Derby or the Virginia Gold Cup Races (like me!) you’ll need the perfect outfit! I mean, what other occasion do you have to get dressed up and wear a big hat? My favorite look is usually a feminine yet comfortable dress (light colors or prints, sleeveless with a fuller skirt) with flats or wedges (no stilettos in the grass, ladies) – and a fantastic hat (or fascinator), of course. This year, I’m honored to be a judge for Gold Cup’s official hat contest! So if you’ll be there, be sure to say hi and wear your best hat! Rock & Republic Preview

First, thanks so much to everyone for all the kind words and support last week! I got some great advice for my first fashion week (check it out here – you are all amazing!) and I couldn’t be more excited!

With only a week to go, in addition to stressing over what I’m going to wear while I’m there (note to self: pack flats), I did some research on what will (most likely) be my first show. As you know, I’ve been selected to join the Kohl’s Rock & Republic Reporter Team to cover their launch party and fashion show. Maybe it’s a Wisconsin thing, but I have a serious love of flannel – so when I spotted this dress at Sears, I snatched it up, thinking it would be the perfect cozy outfit while at home over the holidays. Paired with a belt and my favorite winter scarf, it’s wonderfully comfortable and chic, and at only $23, such a steal! I also grabbed these Kardashian Kollection booties, which I love. They reminded me of the Sam Edelman booties I’ve been eyeing, but again, at an amazingly cheap price. I’ve been wanting a pair of the hiker-esque heeled booties for over a year now and these are perfect.
